10 Facts About Plumbing That You Probably Didn't Know

Here at Boosted, plumbing is our thing. But to anyone who doesn’t know a lot about it, we thought we’d share our list of 10 unusual plumbing facts that we’ve learned over our years in the industry.

Fact 1: Did you know that a leaky tap can waste up to a gallon of water per week? Who knew that a couple drops of water every few minutes could waste that much! This means you could annually save up to 3000 gallons of water just by getting your leaky tap fixed!

Fact 2: Another fact that could save you even more water is that slow flushing toilets can actually save up to 18000 gallons of water annually.

Fact 3: Do you know where the word plumber actually comes from? It derives from the latin word for lead which is Plumbum. This is why the chemical abbreviation for lead is Pb. However I don’t think anyone would like to be called a bum so that’s why we stick to plumber.

Fact 4: The average person spends approximately 3 years of their life on the toilet. Also relating to this, did you know that in 1760, King George II died falling off the toilet?

Fact 5: Did you know that Albert Einstein said if he had a choice, he would be a plumber in his next life.

Fact 6: Before he discovered music, Ozzie Osbourne was actually a plumbing apprentice.

Fact 7: In public toilets, the first stall is usually the one people avoid the most. So therefore, it’s actually the cleanest!

Fact 8: During the halftime segment of major football games in the UK, there is usually a huge surge in water usage. This is due to both the toilet and the kettle.

Fact 9: A shower lasting 8 minutes actually uses more water than taking a bath! Which is crazy considering people always recommend taking showers instead of baths to save water.

Fact 10: Almost 9000 gallons of water is wasted in the average household per year just from waiting for water to heat up!
