A system boiler is quite like a regular boiler, the system boiler will heat your central heating system directly and produces hot water for storage cylinder. The system boiler also contains several additional parts, such as a central heating pump which pushes water that has been heated by your boiler through your home’s radiators, taps and shower heads. It also has a pressure relief valve which will control or limit the pressure in the system, the system boiler also has an expansion vessel which keeps the pressure stable while water heats or cools- this is normally located in the loft
In the system boiler a lot of its parts required for the main function is stored within the boiler, making it a lot more compact and suitable for smaller homes.
The pros to this boiler model are that the unvented hot water cylinder allows multiple taps, showers, or baths to be used at once without it disrupting the water pressure or the temperature. The system boiler uses the mains pressure which does not require a cold-water storage cistern in the loft which will leave you with more space, the system boiler also have unvented cylinders which are well insulated by the manufacturer resulting in them being able to store water hotter for much longer than a traditional cylinder. The unvented cylinder also has an immersion heater installed which means that if the boiler breaks down, you are still able to get hot water.
The cons to this boiler model are that they require space for the boiler and the cylinder, the unvented cylinder also incorporate safety devices with an additional expansion vessel which will require an annual safety check and service, this can be done at the same time as your boiler service.
